Former England manager anoints Patson Daka as Vardy’s heir
Former England manager Glenn Hoddle has anointed Zambian Patson Daka as the perfect heir to Jamie Vardy’s throne at Leicester City.
Vardy is a cult hero at Leicester owing to his unerring scoring exploits, which led the club to its first-ever Premier League title a few years ago.
With Vardy now prone to injuries and playing few games for the struggling Foxes, Hoddle has no doubt of his successor.
WHAT GLENN HODDLE SAID…
“This is really a good goal. A finisher’s goal. Really good goal. He could be the future if Vardy gets a little bit older,” Hoddle told Sky Sports TV on Saturday in his role as a pundit.
“He is the next one, they have given the striker the benefit of doubt, and that will give him a little bit of confidence.”
Hoddle said this after the Zambian international scored Leicester’s goal in the 2-1 loss to Bournemouth.
Daka scored in the 10th minute before Bournemouth responded with goals from Phillip Billing and Ryan Christie.
The Chipolopolo forward signed for Leicester last season following his impressive showing for Red Bull Salzburg in Austria’s Bundesliga.
Speaking to Sky Sports TV in a post-match interview, Leicester under-fire manager Brendan Rodgers admitted that Daka scored a good goal.
“We lost too many balls in the second half. We scored a good goal. We kept up the pressure in the first-half so it is a disappointing result for us,” he said.
Daka has benefited from being played in the starting line-up of late in view of the injury of Vardy.
The Chipolopolo striker was also on target when the Foxes strolled past Nottingham Forest on Monday.
Daka has now scored two league goals in back-to-back games.
It was the season’s first league win for Leicester, who have mere nine points from four league games this season.
