AmaZulu have announced the appointment of former Marumo Gallants coach Romain Folz as the new man in charge at Usuthu.
Folz replaces Brandon Truter, who resigned last week after their 1-0 loss to Richards Bay.
Ayanda Dlamini will assist him, and the duo will be in charge until the end of the 2022/23 season.
The club cut ties with Truter after just five months at the helm and decided to replace him immediately.
The 31-year-old French mentor only lasted six games [two months] in Limpopo and resigned, citing interference from management.
At Usuthu, he will work alongside Dlamini, who knows the ins and outs of the club. The former striker was in charge in 2020 when club president Sandile Zungu took over the club.
He has contributed to developing players such as Sbusiso Magaqa, Sandile Khumalo and Olwethu Mzimela.
Indications are that Truter may have left with his assistant coach Karmal Sait while Siyabonga Nomvethe remained at the club.
In a statement, Zungu stressed the importance of dominating the PSL and growing internationally by making sure they do things right as the oldest team in South Africa.
“I repeat my promise to our fans that I will do everything in my power to bring back the glory days at AmaZulu. We are championship material; there is no doubt about that,” Zungu said as per the statement.
“We can and will challenge for trophies, both domestically and continentally. As the oldest club in the DStv Premiership. Usuthu is a heritage of South African football, and therefore, we must self-correct expeditiously whenever we hit snags.”
The new coach’s first task will be to prepare to face Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg United in the league before facing Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 semi-finals.
The club is currently sitting in the ninth position on the log. Folz would be eager to hit the ground running after being given until the end of the season.
