How Folz plans to manage AmaZulu’s big-name stars

Newly appointed AmaZulu coach Romain Folz explains how he plans to manage big-name stars at the club.

Folz, who is relatively young for a coach in the DStv Premiership, is seemingly not bothered by the age gap between himself and the Usuthu players.

The young coach’s focus is rather on getting the desired results and extending his stay in KwaZulu-Natal.

Folz was unveiled as AmaZulu coach at the weekend, much to the surprise of many within the South African football scenes.

The 32-year-old coach is a replacement to Brandon Truter.

Truter resigned most recently following a poor run of form, but the tactician cited “personal reasons for leaving Usuthu.

WILL FOLZ SUCCEED AT USUTHU?

The French Moroccan has been welcomed by many doubters, with question marks around whether he will be able to man-manage the big players at AmaZulu.

However, Folz says he will not be stressing about the age of his players.

The likes of Lehlohonolo Majoro, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Makhehleni Makhaula, Veli Mothwa, George Maluleka, Bonginkosi Ntuli, Gabadinho Mhango and Dumisani Zuma are some of the players who are older and within the same age group as Folz.

“The same way I have always done in the past, when I was in Botswana and Ghana, even in France, most of my players were older than me,” Folz told the media.

“So, it does not make much of a difference whether you’re 18 or 37; I treat you the same.

“I look at performance more than anything; experience is a very important attribute to players. When it comes to me, I always learn, and there is a long way to go.

“My mindset will remain the same, so I do not see that as a challenge.

“At the end of the day, the results are very important to me,” he added.

President Sandile Zungu, who has made it clear that he wants Usuthu to challenge for trophies, has given Folz until the end of the season to change things around at the club.

Folz is confident he can do well and extend his stay at AmaZulu.

He resigned from Marumo Gallants in September, stating that he was interference in team selections.

“Yes, I know we can achieve a lot with this team; I’ve seen them; they are good enough,” added Folz, who has been given the nickname “Fohloza” by Zungu.

“It is always nice to have a president that believes in you.

“But I do not want to go into details about my previous club. I told them when I resigned, and I want it to remain like that.”
