Janza basks in Tanzania Premier League honour
Zambian coach Honor Janza is basking in the glory of winning Tanzania’s NBC Premier League Coach of the Month September 2022 Award.
Janza won the accolade following his sterling performances in the dugout with Namungo FC in the five opening games of the top-flight league.
JANZA HUMBLED BY AWARD
The former Chipolopolo coach told FARPost that the award will motivate him to work harder.
“I am humbled to receive this recognition in the country of Tanzania….Thank you to the players, administrators and the technical team of Namungo FC and the FA of Tanzania for giving me the opportunity to also manage the Taifa Stars. This is what has made me get this award,” he said.
Janza shrugged off competition from Ruvu Shooting coach Charles Mwansa and Hitiman Thiery of KMC to win the accolade.
The former Napsa Stars technical director is now in his second season with Namungo.
The CAF coaches’ instructor guided Namungo to a respectable fifth place finish last season.
The last coach to steer Zambia to the AFCON finals joined Namungo when they were in the lower half of the 16-member log table.
NAMUNGO’S STEADY RISE
Namungo are in position three on the log table with 11 points from five games.
The team has won three games and drawn twice to remain two points behind leaders Simba and second placed Yanga.
The top two leading Tanzanian teams have 13 points apiece.
Namungo made it nearly a clean sweep of the awards as the team’s official Simon Mwambe won the Stadium Manager of the month September award.
The former Red Arrows trainer has also done a good job with Tanzania in his role as an interim coach.
Janza is in temporary charge of the team following the release of Dane Kim Poulsen following a home 1-0 loss to rivals Uganda in the CHAN qualifiers last month.
In another category, midfielder Feisal Salum of Yanga was named the best player of September.
Salum outclassed competitors such as Moses Phiri of Simba.
Tanzania Premier League Board released the results of the standout performers on Monday for the past month based on their assessment.
