Middendorp linked with sensational return to Hearts of Oak
Former Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp has been linked with a sensational return to Hearts of Oak in Ghana.
Several news outlets in the West African country have been awash with stories connecting the former Kaizer Chiefs gaffer to Oak’s hot seat.
WHAT NEWS OUTLETS IN GHANA ARE SAYING
KickOff Ghana has reported that the Ghana Premier League giants are courting Middendorp to replace Samuel Boadu.
“However, Middendrop, who is a former Asante Kotoko coach, has been linked to the vacant job at Hearts of Oak,” the website reports.
ModernGhana.com has also published a similar story linking the former Kaizer Chiefs gaffer to the job.
If ModernGhana were cautious in suggesting Middendorp’s return to Oak, Ghana Guardian newspaper seemed certain.
“The German who has in recent years been coaching in South Africa could be set for the Hearts hot seat for a second time,” the newspaper claimed.
TalksGhana.com also joined the bandwagon, saying Oak and Middendorp after close to a reunion “after fruitful talks between both parties.”
Oak parted ways with Boudu due to a string of dismal performances.
The need for an experienced coach has become even more urgent after Oak lost 3-0 to AS Real Bamako.
Oak now welcome the Malian opponents in Accra in the Confederation Cup first round, second leg match over the weekend.
SPELLS IN GHANA
The German coached giants Kotoko and Oak between 1999 and 2004.
Middendorp then embarked on his voyage to the Southern tip of the continent, with Chiefs being his first port of call.
He went on to have spells with Bloemfontein Celtic, then Maritzburg twice.
The coach steered the Kwa-Zulu Natal-based club away from relegation last season.
The former Golden Arrows boss rejoined the Team of Choice last season from Ethiopia’s Saint George FC.
However, Maritzburg management opted for new ideas and hired John Maduka from Royal AM.
