Kekana: Being back on the field after injury has been a great relief
Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana who just recovered from injury, described his return to the field of play as a great relief.
Kekana was unfortunate after he sustained an injury in the last match of the preseason as they were wrapping up, gearing for the 2022/23 campaign.
The 29-year-old made his first appearance of the season on Saturday against La Passe in the CAF Champions League. He had a great match, opening the scoring in the first minute on as Masandawana ran riot, thrashing amateur Seychelles outfit 7-0.
“Being back on the field after injury has been a great relief because the injury was frustrating. Overall, I’m happy to be contributing to the team’s success,” Kekana told the club’s media department.
“I just wanted to see myself playing again, that’s my happy place. The feeling of just being on the pitch is amazing. It’s unfortunate that I got injured on the last game of pre-season, but that’s behind me.”
The Bafana international further opened up on this road to recovery. A journey that he described as difficult because he had to push himself and work harder to fully recover.
“I have come a long way with my injury. The process and journey to recovery has been a strenuous one. I had to put in extra work and physiotherapy sessions to get back to full fitness.
“I was doing a lot of extra work on the sides so I could speed up the recovery process. I’m feeling confident again,” Kekana added.
Kekana is expected to make his second appearance for the Masandawana on Friday in the second leg of the CAF Champions League Preliminary round against La Passe.
Kickoff at Loftus Versfeld is at 18:00.
