Chiefs stars Dove, Bimenyimana show love to orphans

Kaizer Chiefs’ stars Edmilson Dove and Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana took time off their busy schedules to show love to orphans in Johannesburg.

The Amakhosi’s in-form players went out of their way to donate groceries to an orphanage in Yeoville, an inner city neighbourhood of Johannesburg on Wednesday.

The duo’s agent Rui Frois of FTI Soccer Academy confirmed to FARPost that the Mozambican defender Dove and Burundian striker Bimenyimana were involved in the charitable cause.

“So, after training on Wednesday, Caleb and Edmilson visited an orphanage in Yeoville. The idea was to go and give to them as a way of thanking God for the opportunity,” he said.

He said the players made the donation to the orphans as one way of giving back to the community.

“I always encourage my players never to forget where they’ve come from,” he said.

Rui said it was important for the footballers to engage in such acts as it helps them to stay grounded.

“I think such initiatives help footballers stay grounded and in touch with reality. The kind of opportunity they have many footballers yearn for it,” Rui added.

“They’re grateful for it and in expressing that gratitude they thought of orphans in Yeoville.

The agent revealed that it was not a coincidence that the Burundian sometimes kneels down while facing the sky when he scores.

“Caleb is very religious. I’m sure you’ve seen him kneel and look to the heavens. When not playing on Sundays, we go to church together,” he said.

Looking to the heavens

“It helps him stay focused and keeps him away from a whole lot of things that could potentially distract him.”

Dove has every reason to thank the heavens for his career as he is enjoying the best form at Chiefs.

The 28-year-old won back-to-back man-of-the match awards when Chiefs beat Swallows 2-1 and Stellenbosch 3-1.

The defender has been leading from the back where Bimenyimana is delivering the goods upfront.

The Burundian netted a hat-trick in the game against Stellenbosch to gatecrash the Golden Boot race, joining Peter Shalulile on six goals.
