Nigerian goalkeeper wins Manchester United fans’ hearts

Nigerian and Omonia goalkeeper Francis Uzoho won the hearts of Manchester United fans on Thursday night after thwarting Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford 17 times.

Manchester United fans have since urged Erik ten Hag to sign him after his stellar display in their 1-0 loss to the Red Devils in the Europa League clash on Thursday night.

The talented goal-minder won United’s faithfuls over at Old Trafford with his heroic saves. Uzoho made countless saves until Scott McTominay scored in stoppage time.

Omonia’s first-choice goalie Fabiano Freitas’ injury was a blessing in disguise for Uzoho, who is the second-choice goalkeeper at his side as he went on to make the most of the opportunity afforded to him in the absence of Freitas.

This was his third game of the campaign, one of the games he will cherish for the rest of his life.

In a post-match interview with BT Sport, the Nwangele-born expressed his excitement about his phenomenal performance against one of the best teams in the world.

“It’s a dream come true for me,” said Uzoho as quoted by Manchester Evening News.

The Nigerian international went on to reveal that he has been longing to play at ‘Theatre of Dreams’ [Old Trafford] for quite some time.

“I have dreamed to play here for a long, long time,” added the die-hard Manchester United fan.

“When I saw the draw and I figured I would be playing at Old Trafford, I prayed to God that I got an opportunity to play.”

Uzoho was part of Nigeria U-17 at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup at the age of 14.

He received his first call-up for the Super Eagles in October 2017. But made his international debut in November of the very same year during their 4-2 win friendly international over Argentina.
