Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi is clearly confident that the goals will come for the club as the season progresses.
Ncikazi backs Pirates to score when they take on AmaZulu in a DStv Premiership match on Friday evening (19:30) at Orlando Stadium.
Pirates last scored a goal when they defeated TS Galaxy 2-0 in the league over a month ago, and Ncikazi says they must focus on themselves to find the back of the net.
GOALS WILL COME, SAYS NCIKAZI
“The preparations are going well; we know where we are, and we know where we want to get to,” Ncikazi told the club’s media department.
“The players look ready; we ready to fight for points against a difficult opponent [AmaZulu], we not sure about them.
“Especially after the change of leadership, but we don’t have to focus on opponents. We have to focus on ourselves.
“We know our challenges, so it’s just about working on the final third, scoring goals, and I think we will score tonight,” added Ncikazi.
The Buccaneers have had an inconsistent start to the new campaign under Spanish coach Jose Riveiro.
Despite making high-profile signings of Kermit Erasmus and Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo on the transfer deadline day in September, Pirates are without a win in their last three games in all competitions.
The Soweto giants have managed four wins, three draws and lost three after ten games played in the league thus far.
In the 2021/22 campaign, Ncikazi served as a co-coach alongside Fladu Davids.
The duo couldn’t make a real impression as the Ghost finished sixth in the league and lost in the CAF Confederation Cup final.
Riveiro and his troops will be looking to return to winning ways they face the Usuthu, who are also seeking revival under the newly appointed coach Romain Folz.
Folz took over the KZN-based side after Brandon Truter resigned, citing personal results.
Truter’s final game was a humiliating Derby loss against PSL newbies Richards Bay last weekend to stretch the club’s winless run to five matches across all competitions.
