Zambia confirm Colombia women’s international friendly

Zambia women’s national team will face Colombia in an international friendly next month.

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) general secretary Adrian Kashala said Zambia will visit Colombia, where they will play two friendly dates in Cali.

Kashala said the friendlies will be played on November 12 and 15 at the Pascual Guerrero Stadium.

“We are excited to announce that the Copper Queens will play Colombia next month during the FIFA Window in Cali,” Kashala said in a statement.

“This is part of our long-term plan to help the Copper Queens prepare for the World Cup.

“We have had a lot of suitors for friendly matches, and we would be very methodical in the choice of opponents.

“We are conscious that the draw will also influence the choice of our opponents in the period preceding the World Cup.”

The friendly comes after Zambia’s October 6 away friendly against fellow 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup finalists The Netherlands in Breda was cancelled due to visa complications.

Zambia was the only one of Africa’s four FIFA Women’s World Cup representatives who did not see any friendly action during the October international window.

South Africa lost 4-1 to FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosts Australia; Nigeria was beaten 2-0 away by Japan in Kobe, while Morocco lost two dates by similar 4-0 score lines to Poland and Canada in Spain.

Colombia, like Zambia, has also qualified for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and heads into the October 22 draws in Auckland in Pot 3 and 4, respectively.

Zambia will make their FIFA Women’s World Cup debut as one of the four 2022 Women’s AFCON semifinalists.

Meanwhile, Zambia returns to South America for the second time since November 28, 2020, when they played Chile in Santiago, where the visitors won 2-1 in a pre-Olympic Games friendly.
