Le Roux and Matthews on target in Sweden

South African midfield duo of Luke Le Roux and Tashreeq Matthews were both on target last night for their Swedish sides, Varbergs BoIs and IK Sirius respectively. 

Le Roux scored his first league goal for his club when they crashed Helsingborg 3-1.

The 22-year-old footballer was the highest rated player for Varbergs after his stellar display on the day. 

He has made 22 appearances across all competitions for Varbergs this season and contributed one goal in the process. 

Overall, the rising star has played a total number of 72 games in Varbergs colours, having joined them back in February 2020.

Le Roux previously represented teams such as Ikapa Sporting, SuperSport United and Stellenbosch in South before moving to overseas.

TASHREEQ MATTHEWS ALSO SHINES IN SWEDEN 

Matthews also opened his IK Sirius account as the they beat Norrkoping 2-0 in a league clash. He played 73 minutes in this game. 

The 22-year-old recently Sirius on a four-year deal after parting ways with Varbergs, where he scoring eight goals  in 60 matches. 

The ex-Ajax Cape Town product had revealed that he joined Sirius because of their attractive philosophy of the game and way of playing. 

“I was attracted to how they play forward, create chances and how they work to own possession,” those were the words of Matthews when he put pen to paper with Sirius.

Currently, Sirius find themselves in the 11th position with 30 points from 26 outings in the top division of Sweden.

The side will play their next league game against Hammarby IF on Thursday, 20 October away from home. 

The kick-off is scheduled for 19:00 [SA time].

Matthews has represented South Africa at the under-20 level.     

The former Borussia Dortmund man will be hoping to build on his consistency and help side side to climb up the log standings.
