Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila could not hold back tears after the memorable 2-1 win over Kaizer and paid tribute to his centenarian granny.
It was an understandable emotion considering his recent decision to switch from an administrative role to take up the coaching job at Chippa.
In addition, under his tutelage, Chippa had just won three successive league games for the first time in eight years.
“I was told that it’s the first time in eight that this team has won three successive games, but credit goes to the boys,” Mammila told SuperSport in a post-match interview.
Mammila sticks to game plan sounds better
He was quick to appreciate his players for sticking to the game plan.
“They stuck to the plans, I said we were going to dictate the terms of this game in our terms, and we’ve done that.

“The support we have received from the Chippa United family, the supporters and everyone who loves football [has been incredible],” he said.
Thereafter, his voice changed, overwhelmed by emotion. The former CEO just had to appreciate his grandmother, who raised him and supported his passion for football from a young age.
“But if I’m allowed, please allow me to thank my family, especially my grandmother, who is watching now.
“Thank you for the support that you gave me when I started being involved in football from the grassroots level. I hope now you can see what it has yielded.
“I was raised by my grandmother, who is over 100 years old now. And she’s still walking and talking, and she’s watching football.
“While you’re still watching, look at what your grandson is doing right now because of the support that you gave me from an early age,” he said in SePedi.
He went on to explain how they managed to upset a Chiefs side that was enjoying a purple patch.
“We didn’t want to go pound for pound with Chiefs because they were going to kill us, so we said what must we do, ‘let’s play rondo with them so that they must not come to you.’
“Credit to my boys. These are the fruits of whatever we have been doing for the past three weeks.
“This is what we have been cooking for the past three weeks, and I knew they would not last 90 minutes. That’s why I made those subs at 45 minutes.”
He will search for their fourth successive win on Tuesday when they take on Sekhukhune at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban.
