Former Polokwane City forward Sulumba can’t stop scoring
Former Polokwane City forward Muhamad Sulumba scored again when Mighty Mukuru Wanderers beat Ekwendeni Hammers FC 2-1 on Sunday in Malawi.
Sulumba scored in the 52nd minute to cushion Wanderers’ lead after they had gone ahead through Wisdom Mpinganjira’s 35th-minute opener in the elite TNM Super League match.
Isaac Nyirenda pulled one back for the Northern Region-based Hammers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
The 27-year-old Sulumba leads the Golden Boot Award race for the Super League with 14 goals in 24 games.
SEIZED CONTROL
The Flames forward Sulumba seized control of the Golden Boot chase after netting a hat-trick when Wanderers hammered Rumphi United 10-0 last week.
Sulumba has displaced Babatunde Adepoju of Bullets and Silver Strikers’ Chawanangwa Kaonga, who were leading the race with 12 goals each.
Sulumba played a handful of games for Polokwane in the 2018 season when he scored just twice before he was released.
He has now rediscovered his spark in front of goal leading to his recent national team recall.
Sulumba is proving to be the main man for the fourth-placed Wanderers who have 47 points 24 games, 11 points behind leaders Nyasa Big Bullets.
Wanderers remain unbeaten in three league games since the coming in of technical director Mark Harrison.
The former Chippa United and Golden Arrows coach Harrison is working with Wanderers head coach Alex Ngwira.
Elsewhere, Wanderers rivals Bullets drew 1-1 with second-placed Blue Eagles on Saturday to remain eight points clear.
The Kalisto Pasuwa-coached Bullets are chasing a record 16th league title and a fourth consecutive one for the Zimbabwean.
Each team now has an average of four games to the end of the Malawi league campaign, which runs from March to December.
The league comprises 16 teams, and the bottom three are relegated at the end of a season.
