Maduka seeks divine intervention as pressure mounts

Maritzburg United coach John Maduka has admitted that he needs divine intervention to save his job.

Maduka said this amid mounting pressure over uninspiring results. He said only good results could guarantee his job.

The former Royal AM mentor said he has put all his hope in God. “I enjoy the support of the chairman; they know the plan, and we are building. Look at the team we have, and where the players are coming from, it’s not an easy job,” Maduka told the media.

“We can see the progress, but building a team takes time. For me, as a coach, it is part of our job, and we know how to deal with pressure.”

“If results are not coming, the coach has to leave, but for now, I leave that to God. I said when I was at Royal AM that if God doesn’t want me to be here will be here. It’s just like that,” he added.

His future hangs in the balance after a not-so-good start to the season. The Team of Choice finds themselves in danger of relegation after playing 10 games.

Maritzburg have only recorded wins over Chippa United and Orlando Pirates, while losing to Royal AM, Kaizer Chiefs, Stellenbosch and Supersport United.

Maritzburg managed to draw against Swallows, Cape Town City, Sekhukhune United and Richards Bay.

United are misfiring upfront, and this comes as no surprise considering that they did not make big signings.

A loss against AmaZulu, who have a new coach Romain Folz, in the next game could see Maduka becoming the latest coach to lose his job.

Maritzburg chairman Farook Kadodia also hinted in an interview with FARPost that the club will do a review and make a decision soon.
