Chippa Mpengesi explains stadium dilemma

Chippa United chairman Siviwe Mpengesi has explained the stadium dilemma that has forced them to move their next two home games to Durban and Johannesburg.

The Chilli Boys have been forced to play their next two DStv Premiership home games against Sekhukhune United and Richards Bay away from home.

THE RENOVATIONS

According to the club’s boss, it was because of renovations in Port Elizabeth and Sisa Dukashe was no longer allowed to host professional games.

“Because Sisa Dukashe has been stripped of their license to host PSL games, another stadium in Port Elizabeth is under renovation.

“We were supposed to play Sekhukhune in East London, and PSL has decided to take that game to Chatsworth Stadium,” Mpengesi told the media.

“There is another against Richards Bay FC, which will be played in Bidvest Stadium because of the problems.”

The outspoken Mpengesi also expressed his unhappiness about the municipality work, as he feels they do not know what they are doing.

PAYING THE COSTS

“We have a lease of 20 years at Absa stadium, and it is under construction, but the problem is the municipality has people who do not understand what they are doing.

“It is costing a lot of money because now we have to pay the costs of these things.”

As they host Sekhukhune away from home, they will be buoyed by their famous 2-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Their goals came through Sphelele Luthuli and an own goal from Edmilson Dove. Joyful Mpengesi expressed pride in his boys and felt the Chiefs’ result would go a long way.

“We apologise for the load shedding of beating Kaizer Chiefs. We needed this balance. It would be unfair to beat Orlando Pirates at home and not Chiefs. I was left impressed by the performance of my boys.

“We are not there yet, but we are coming. I was so happy. We showed that we are not a small team.”
