Ex-Chippa coach Heric angling for Malawian club job
Former Chippa United coach Vladislav Heric has confirmed that he is angling for a coaching job at Silver Strikers FC in Malawi.
The Serb Heric told Malawi’s The Nation newspaper that he felt the time had come for him to sample the country’s elite TNM Super League.
The 56-year-old said this after Silver advertised the coaching post, which became vacant after Zambian Dan Kabwe’s sacking months ago due to poor results.
“I have coached some Malawian players in South Africa, and I was impressed with their skills and discipline… It is time to leave South Africa,” Heric told The Nation newspaper.
The former Bay United gaffer was referring to former Malawian players such as Jimmy Zakazaka, Joseph Kamwendo, Robert Ngámbi and Esau Kanyenda.
The UEFA A-licence holder coached the former Malawian internationals at clubs such as Bay, TTM, Black Leopards and Polokwane City.
Heric managed Maritzburg United in 2007, followed by a stint at Bay in 2010, Leopards the following year then Polokwane in 2012.
The Serb went on to pick jobs at Chippa first as a coach, then as technical director last year in what was his third stint with the Chilli Boys.
Silver Chief Executive Officer Thoko Chimbali confirmed that they were hunting for a coach to replace interim mentor Leo Mpulula.
However, Chimbali fell short of confirming that Heric was among the applicants for the job.
“The VA closes on Friday, 28th October 2022, and only then, we will be able to confirm the applicants,” he told FARPost.
Silver wants coaches who hold a minimum of a CAF A-Licence. Silver are among Malawi’s three biggest teams, alongside defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets, and their Blantyre rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.
The Reserve Bank of Malawi-sponsored-Silver have won the second highest league titles, eight, behind Bullets’ 15 since the league’s establishment in 1986.
Silver, the club that produced great players such as the now Maritzburg coach John Maduka, are desperate to win the league title, which they last did in 2013.
Silver want to hire a coach on a two-year contract, and applications can be sent via: CEO, Silver Strikers FC Ltd, Box 30063, Lilongwe or [email protected] by 5pm on October 28 2022.
Silver and Bullets have a professional set-up with a clubhouse, stadium, management team and board.
The Lilongwe-based club operates like a company and is among the highest-paying teams in Malawi alongside Bullets.
Former Zimbabwe coach Kalisto Pasuwa is in charge of Bullets, whereas ex-Golden Arrows mentor Mark Harrison is now Wanderers’ technical director.
