Kaizer Chiefs out to make amends

After failing to gift revered Kaizer Chiefs the perfect birthday gift on Saturday, Amakhosi will look to make amends when they clash with TS Galaxy on Wednesday.

Chiefs’ coach Arthur Zwane expressed disappointment after they failed to beat Chippa United for the club’s chairman.

Fourth-placed Chiefs suffered a shock 2-1 defeat against Chippa in the DStv Premiership on Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium

The defeat came just a day before Motaung’s 78th birthday. “I’m more than disappointed in terms of results. The victory would have been a very good present for the chairman,” Zwane said after the match.

“We were playing at home since we decided to bring our games here [Moses Mabhida stadium]. “Losing a game at home makes me even more disappointed.”

Prior to losing against the Chilli Boys, Chiefs were on a high after claiming back-to-back victories against Swallows and Stellenbosch.

The Soweto giants missed out on the opportunity to go top of the Premiership table since the log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, were not in action in the league over the weekend.

Sundowns were involved in the CAF Champions League fixture against Seychelles outfit La Passe on Friday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Arthur Zwane will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways

On Wednesday, they take on hoodoo side TS Galaxy at the FNB Stadium [19h30], and they would want to make amends for the weekend loss.

“We are taking it one game at a time. We need to focus on the game against TS Galaxy on Wednesday and make sure we do well at home,” said Zwane.

“Additionally, we approach league and cup games differently, so our preparation is for Wednesday. We will go out there and give it our best.”

They will have to do it without chief striker Caleb Bimenyimana, who is nursing an injury. Chiefs have had an inconsistent start to the new 2022/23 campaign, which saw them win five games, draw two and lose four outings in 10 games.

Zwane is in his first season as the head coach of Chiefs after replacing Stuart Baxter, who was in the dugout last season.

The Naturena-based side had an underwhelming campaign under Baxter, and he was subsequently axed from the club.
