South African teams discover CAF Confederation Cup opponents
South Africa’s three representatives in the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup on Tuesday discovered their next opponents.
Royal AM and Marumo Gallants both progressed to the second preliminary round of the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup after accounting for Zesco of Zambia and Madagascar’s Elgeco over the weekend.
Royal AM played a goalless draw against Zesco over the weekend before holding them to a 1-1 draw in Zambia, progressing courtesy of the away goals rule.
Gallants won 3-1 away before a 1-0 win at home. Their opponents for the next round have since been revealed after the draw was conducted on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt.
The Durban outfit faces former African champions TP Mazembe of DRC, while the Limpopo side clash with Libya side Al Ahli Tripoli.
Cape Town City, who were knocked out of the CAF Champions League, play USM Alger of Algeria.
The three South African teams have exactly two weeks to prepare for their CAF opponents, with the first leg pencilled in for 2 November. The return leg takes place the following weekend.
