The Golden Boot Award chase is heating up in some Southern African leagues, including the DStv Premiership.
The DStv Premiership race is becoming interesting with Bradley Grobler and Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana giving Peter Shalulile a good run for his money.
Grobler joined Shalulile as the joint leading scorers on six goals apiece following his strike for SuperSport United in the 2-0 win over Stellenbosch on Tuesday.
CATCH UP
Bimenyimana was the first to catch up with Shalulile on six goals after netting a hat-trick of penalties in the 3-1 win over Stellenbosch the previous week.
Across the Limpopo River, William Manondo has taken Zimbabwe Premier League Golden Boot pursuit by storm with a haul of 15 goals for Cape United.
Manondo is three goals clear of former Polokwane City striker Walter Musonda of the defending champions FC Platinum.
Across the Northern borders of South Africa, Lau King is ruling the scoring business with eight goals for table-topping UD Songo.
King was not on target on Wednesday when Songo lost 1-0 to defending champions Black Bulls.
However, King is still two goals ahead of Victor (ABB), Isac (Fer. Nampula) and Valter (Lichinga).
Elsewhere, Nigerian striker Babatunde Adepoju has regained Malawi’s TNM Super League Golden Boot lead.
Adepoju went back on top after netting four goals for champions Nyasa Big Bullets on October 19 2022.
Adepoju took his tally to 16 goals from 24 games, two goals clear of Mighty Mukuru Wanderers forward Muhammad Sulumba.
EARLY PACESETTER
Adepoju has replaced Sulumba who led the race for over a week after scoring four goals in two games.
Sulumba is now in second place with 14 goals followed by Chawanangwa Kaonga on third place with 12 goals.
The elite league is still in its infancy in Zambia but still Lubinda Musonda has emerged as the early pace setter.
Musonda has five goals for Prison Leopards FC followed by Kennedy Musonda (Power Dynamos), George Ngoma (Green Buffaloes) and Amity Shamende (Green Eagles) on four goals each.
The league of Namibia has been in comma for close to two years due to administrative hitches whereas Botswana and Eswatini leagues are yet to get in full swing.
