Simba vs Yanga: How much players get for winning Kariakoo derby

A lot will be at stake when Simba clash with their arch-nemesis Yanga in the much-awaited Kariakoo Derby.

Any clash between the two teams is high stakes, and players know the rich pickings that come with it.

FARPost looks at how much the two giants have promised their players should they emerge victorious in the clash.

THE REDS

Wekundu Wa Mzimbazi have put a whopping TZS 500 million [R4 million] to be shared by the squad should they win the tie.

Typically, each player would end up with close to R90 000 in their account should they emerge victorious in the tie.

According to a source at the club, the stakes are high because they desperately want to return to winning ways.

Simba finished second behind their rivals last season, as Young Africans collected everything on offer.

They won the treble – starting with the Community Shield, then the league title and the Azam Cup.

The Msimbazi Street Boys have started perfectly this season, storming into the Group Stages of the CAF Champions League while their rivals were knocked out.

Simba are currently at the top of the log, although they have won the same number of games and drawn the same.

Both teams are yet to lose and would each want to inflict the first loss on the other when they meet at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

Timu ya Wananchi

Across town, Timu ya Wananchi has promised its players TZ200 million [R1.6 million] should they emerge as winners in the potentially explosive clash.

The prize on the table means a win would see each player pocketing close to R40 000.

Simba are in top form

“It’s my second derby as president of Yanga, the ninth in charge of the competition committee. I’ve lost only two out of nine.

“InshaAllah, we want to win and go top of the top. We have the same points [with Simba – 13] and are separated by goal difference.

“It’s the biggest game of the season… We’ll have to put in a lot of bonuses for the players.

“This is the biggest game of the season, and you must prepare everything before you throw your coins,” Yanga president, Eng. Hersi Said Ally told FARPost.
