Jose Riveiro’s message to Monnapule Saleng

Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng in arguably the form of his life, has been advised by his coach Jose Riveiro to stay humble following a great start to the season at the Soweto giants.

Saleng continued with his good form as he scored a brace against Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg MTN8 semifinal to send Pirates to the MTN8 final, where they will face AmaZulu.

The MTN8 final is set to be staged at Moses Mabhida Stadium on 05 November.

In the Downs game, Saleng also provided an assist for Kermit Erasmus who opened the scoring for Pirates early in the first half.

The speedy attacker has found his groove, netting back-to-back braces. The first one came against Golden Arrows on Tuesday in a DStv Premiership clash.

He has now taken his tally to four goals and an assists in just six games in all competitions.

And with everything doing well for Saleng as he is the in-form players at Pirates, José Riveiro has asked the player to remain level headed and stay grounded.

BUCS COACH RIVEIRO ON SALENG

“About Saleng, you know I don’t like to individualise players because they are part of one structure,” Riveiro told the media.

“They have different responsibilities, and I will never highlight or put a spotlight on one player.

“There are players who are more attractive to the fans of course especially a player like Saleng.

“I mean you can see the way he’s coming week after week, now what’s key for him and for us is to stay humble,” added the Pirates coach.

The 24-year old star was signed by the Buccaneers at the start of 2021/21 season from second-tier sdie Free State Stars.

However, Saleng was sent out on loan to Swallows in his first season in the topflight

He amassed 29 appearances in all competitions while scoring in two outings for the Birds, who managed to avoid the relegation axe by winning the playoffs.

After an impressive showing at the Dobsonville-based side in the last campaign, Saleng, who is left footed recalled back to the Sea Robbers to fight for his place in the team under new coach Riveiro.

And his numbers show that he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands, while forming a deadly parternship with Erasmus, who is also in good form in his second stint as a Bucanner having rejoined from Sundowns in September.

Pirates will shift their focus to the league, where they are set to face Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 29th of October. Kick off is at 15:30.
