Makume aims to inflict more pain on Sundowns

Maritzburg United defender Bonginkosi Makume says the club aims to inflict more pain on limping Mamelodi Sundowns in a DStv Premiership match on Tuesday in Pietermaritzburg,

Makume insists that Maritzburg will not give an inch as they target three points in the encounter set to start at 19:30 at Harry Gwala Stadium.

The Team of Choice and coach John Maduka are under immense pressure as they are winless in their last four league games.

They are early relegation candidates in 13th place after 11 games with only two wins, five draws and four defeats.

However, Makume is optimistic that Maritzburg will be able to feed off Sundowns disappointing MTN8 semifinal result on Saturday, which saw the Tshwane giants suffer a 3-0 defeat against Orlando Pirates.

The embarrassing loss saw Sundowns make technical team changes, with Rulani Mokwena taking over as the club’s new commander-in-chief.

WHAT MAKUME EXPECTS FROM DOWNS

Makume expects Sundowns to come out guns blazing as they lost their previous match.

But the former Baroka captain promised his side would leave everything out on the pitch while treating Sundowns like any other club with valuable three points at stake.

“The preparations are going well; we have not gotten the desired results in the past few games. Facing Sundowns is no different to any team; we want positive results,” said Makume.

“We want to move up in the log and we need a win to do that.

“And we are aware that Sundowns will come to us with one thing, revenge after their loss.

“They will be targeting a win; we know what they can do at any given time.

“But we also want to win; we won’t make it easy for them. We will fight as a team, and that will help us to get maximum points.

Maduka’s troops will be motivated by the fact that they have already beaten Pirates at home this season.

And a win against Sundowns will ease the pressure on Maduka.

The coach’s future at the club is in doubt due to a series of poor results.
