Arrows coach Vilakazi bemoans defensive frailties

Golden Arrows head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has bemoaned his side’s defensive frailties after suffering a 3-1 defeat against Royal AM in the DStv Premiership at Chatsworth Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Arrows are winless in their last four league games with their last victory dating back to 17th of September when they thrashed Swallows 4-0.

Vilakazi has identified the contributing factors to Arrows’ current poor form.

“Not the results that we were looking for as Golden Arrows and obviously we are disappointed,” Vilakazi told the media.

Golden Arrows co-coach Vusi Vilakazi has sent a message to naysayers, saying he does not have the luxury of time to entertain them.

“We’re been struggling lately to get points as a team and I think today we faced the very same challenge that always occurs when we playing our games.

“The first five to ten minutes our focus is low, we allow oppositions to score first.

“We now have to double the effort in trying to equalize which I think we are making things very difficult for ourselves.”

Vilakazi says Arrows gives away easy goals, which is a major concern.

MAJOR CONCERN

“When you look at the goals that we concede, it’s easy goals and it’s something that we could do better in terms of defending,” he added.

“We allowed Royal AM to score first and we had to chase the game, it was a very scrappy first half because in our minds we were still in the changing rooms.

“But I think we had a very strong second half trying to dominate and also creating goal scoring opportunities.

“We managed to get a penalty which we were unfortunate that Nduduzo Sibiya missed it but it’s fine.

“It’s water under the bridge, he has been scoring penalties for us in too many games but coming back to defending, it’s one aspect that needs our attention.

Vilakazi continued: “We are making things very easy for opponents to penetrate us; we need to be a bit stubborn so that we can also create goal-scoring opportunities.

“Once we deal with those aspects, we stand a very good chance of winning games because in second half we always come back strong.

The dominance of having the ball but not scoring doesn’t win us games, we need to score,” added Vilakazi.

Abafana Bes’thende have won three games, drawn four while losing five times after 12 games played.
