CAF re-opens bidding process for Afcon 2025

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have re-opened the bidding process for the hosting rights of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) 2025, the continent’s football mother body announced on Wednesday.

The decision comes after Guinea were striped of the right to host the competition because of a lack of suitably advancing infrastructure and facilities.

Guinea has had nearly a decade to prepare for the finals, having originally been named as host of the 2023 Nations Cup in 2014, prior to then being asked to host in 2025 instead.

The political situation in Guinea, which has been under military rule since a coup last year, had led to concerns over security and organisation for its Nations Cup hosting.

CAF on Wednesday sent a notice to the Member Associations to express their interest in hosting the AFCON 2025. Including the process that will be followed in the selection of the host country or countries.
