Ghana to warm up for World Cup with Switzerland

Ghana will play Switzerland next month in a final warm-up for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar; Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Simeon-Okraku confirmed the friendly scheduled for November 17.

“The Black Stars will play against Switzerland in our final preparatory match on November 17, before we depart for the tournament,” he told his association’s website.

Simeon-Okraku said this at Jubilee House when he led his executive committee to present the Black Stars official World Cup kit.

Ghana will also have camp training in Abu Dhabi ahead of the final warm up match, he added.

GHANA’S PLAN

“Our plan is to open training camp in Abu Dhabi on November 10 when the team will camp for about nine days before we depart for the tournament,” Simeon-Okraku said.

He has assured that the Black Stars will be fully ready for the forthcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

“Through the support of our sector minister Mustapha Ussif, we are working hard to give them the best preparations for the World Cup,” he said.

Richard Ofori of Orlando Pirates is part of the Ghana World Cup squad.

The GFA head said will not go to Qatar to just make up numbers but to compete strongly.

“The Technical team will be ready, the staff will be ready, the players will be ready, and Ghana will be ready,” he said.

Ghana saw off rivals Nigeria to book their ticket to the World Cup and make up for their shambolic performance at the delayed AFCON finals in Cameroon.

Ghana will bank of Premier League stars such as Thomas Partey and Jordan Ayew, then his Saudi Arabia-based elder brother Andre Ayew at the tournament.

The Black Stars will make their fourth appearance at the World Cup, having last participated in 2014 edition held in Brazil.
