Mammila says time for other teams to taste wins

Chippa United caretaker coach Morgan Mammila insists it is now time for other teams to taste victories following the end of his four-game winning run.

Mammila said this after the Chilli Boys 2-1 lost to Cape Town City in a DStv Premiership game on Tuesday evening.

“God love all the teams in PSL. It is time for others to shine now. From position 16 – 6 on the DSTV log, wow,” he said in reaction to a tweet by Mazola Molefe.

The sports journalist had tweeted that Chippa’s loss to Cape Town City had ended Mammila’s four-game winning streak.

“The queue for wins is too long. Some they still need to get one win, and others two. Patiently, waiting for my turn again,” Mammila added.

It was the first defeat for Mammila since taking over the coaching role for the first time in his football career.

He had previously established himself as a top-notch football administrator serving clubs such as Chippa and Baroka as CEO.

Mammila filled the void created by the departure of Daine Klate as Chippa coach due to unconvincing results.

The former Orlando Pirates and SuperSport winger Klate survived for mere weeks on the job at Chippa.

Few coaches survive on the job at the Port Elizabeth-based team.

However, the former Baroka CEO Mammila is proving to be an exception. He has made a big impact at Chippa.

He has taken Chippa to position six on the log table with 17 points from 12 matches.

Mammila became the first coach in Chippa’s top-flight league history to win four games on the bounce.

He has been a success so far despite that he has mere basic coaching papers for the head coach job.

Mammila recently said he will complete his coaching badges as he looks certain to swap suits for track suits.

Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns lead the table with 25 points from 11 games following their 5-0 victory over Maritzburg United.
