Blow for Cameroon as Moukoko is named in Germany squad

Cameroon 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar squad plans may have suffered a blow. This comes after Germany coach Hansi Flick included Cameroon-born striker Youssoufa Moukoko in his 44-man preliminary squad.

At this stage, it’s too early for the Indomitable Lions to throw in the towel as Flick will have to trim his World Cup squad down to 26 players.

All of this will become clear on November 10th when the mentor submits his final squad. That is when they will be preparing for the global football elite tournament.

Moukoko is eligible to represent any of the two nations. He was born in Younde, Cameroon. In 2014, before turning 10, he relocated to Germany with his parents. That is when he started playing football as a teenager. In 2016, he joined Dortmund development side.

In 2019, he was promoted to the Dortmund first team becoming the youngest player ever to play in the Bundesliga at the age of 16. He holds the record for the youngest player to score in German topflight at 16 years and 28 days.

Moukoko was a surprise inclusion in the squad, however those who know him better and what he is capable of in the field of play are not surprised at all.

The 17-year-old has had a fine season so far with Borussia Dortmund becoming one of the key players in both the league and in the UEFA Champions League. Moukoko has scored four goals and provided three assists in the Bundesliga.

Moukoko is currently representing the Germany U/21 national team. In the past, he has represented the U/18s and U/16s Whenever called to represent the national team he has impressed in the junior levels.
