Tau in line for Al Ahly selection ahead of Zamalek game
Percy Tau is available for Al Ahly’s matchday squad selection ahead of Friday’s Egyptian Super Cup game against Zamalek.
The Cairo rivals will meet at neutral Al-Ain’s Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in a game that gives Al Ahly an opportunity to win silverware.
Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller has named Tau in the squad that has travelled to Abu Dhabi for the match.
The Bafana Bafana forward made his long-awaited return to action last week in a meeting against Aswan FC.
Friday’s game offers Tau another opportunity to impress new the Swiss coach.
TAU GIVEN A CHANCE
Koller said he was still assessing his players to ascertain their strengths and weaknesses.
“I took responsibility for the team six weeks ago. I still know the abilities of each player during the training,” he told Al Ahly’s media department.
“We still have time to improve the team’s performance and to reach the level we want.”
He said the game against Zamalek presents the former Champions League kings a stern test.
“It will be a strong game and the fans are going to love it. I am happy that we will play in front of a large number of our fans, besides that we will face a strong team like Zamalek,” Koller said.
The former Austria mentor admitted that he still has a lot to win back the full support of fans, who have been disappointed by recent failure to win silverware.
The game involves league leaders and FA cup holders. Al Ahly are 11-time Egyptian Super Cup winners.
The Reds go into the match on the back of a four-game winning run in CAF Champions League and Egyptian Premier League.
The Club of the Century is also yet to concede under the reign of Koller.
The Swiss coach replaced Ricardo Soares who was sacked a few months after replacing South African Pitso Mosimane.
The former Bafana Bafana mentor Mosimane resigned in June this year, saying he felt he had done his part as per given mandate.
Al Ahly are in third place in the Egyptian Premier League log table with six points from two games.
Zamalek lead the table on superior goal-aggregate having also won two back-to-back games by wider margins compared to Ahly.
