Percy Tau celebrates Egyptian Super Cup win from bench
South African star Percy Tau did not need to kick the ball to celebrate his latest piece of glory with Al Ahly on Friday evening.
Tau was on the substitutes’ bench when Al Ahly defeated bitter rivals Zamalek 2-0 in the Egyptian Super Cup contest in Abu Dhabi.
Nonetheless, Tau reacted to the title triumph by sharing pictures of himself dancing .
Al Ahly won their 12th Super Cup courtesy of goals from Bruno Savio and second half substitute Karim Fouad.
Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller did not feel like introducing Tau who was the on the substitutes’ bench.
“Tonight’s title win is a reward for our players on their hard work during the past period,” Koller said
“In the start of the second half, Zamalek placed pressure on us. However, we were to cope to the pressure after making than one substitution.”
Koller described the game as a good test ahead of the new tougher league games and CAF Champions League assignments.
“We’ve been working very hard since our arrival to the club and I’m very happy to win my first title with Al Ahly,” he said.
“This game is very special for us, as it is our first game to play in front of such a huge number of our fans. Therefore, I have to thank the officials in UAE for making it possible tonight.”
Al Ahly have now won all their five games on the bounce since the Swiss manager took over from Ricardo Soares.
The former Champions League holders are also yet to concede in the five games.
The latest silverware should rekindle memories of the trophy-laden era of South African Pitso Mosimane.
The former Bafana Bafana coach resigned in June this year after leading Al Ahly to greater heights.
