Messi nets goal for archives in PSG narrow win

Lionel Messi celebrated his September Player of the month Award with yet another PSG goal for the archives in the 4-3 win over Troyes on Saturday afternoon.

Messi had, before the French Ligue 1 game at Parc des Princes, received a miniature trophy for having won the UNPF award.

The Argentine received 57 percent of the votes ahead of FC Lorient’s Dango Outtara (31 percent) and Losc’s Jonathan David’s 12 percent.

“With the Argentina international winning the honour for the first time in his career, he wasted no time in celebrating it, as Les Rouge et Bleu’s no. 30 bagged a goal and an assist against Troyes,” PSG website reads.

Mama Balde had given Troyes an early lead before Soler equalized for the hosts to make it 1-1 at break.

Troyes restored their lead with Balde scoring again and it was at that moment that the Argentine Messi then went on to score a stunning goal from long range.

The former Barcelona captain then added an assist to his game to set Neymar clear to score.

Kylian Mbappe joined the fray with a goal from the penalty spot after Solar was fouled in the box.

There was late drama as Kante scored Troyes third goal after sloppy defending by PSG as the game petered to a nervy finish.

MESSI – EIGHT OUT OF EIGHT

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi has now scored in the last eight consecutive games.

Messi had on Tuesday netted a double for PSG in the 7-2 win over Maccabi Haifa in a UEFA Champions League game.

The Argentina captain has scored four goals and provided three assists in four Champions League games this campaign.

Messi has scored 12 goals in 17 games across all competitions for the French Ligue 1 champions.

Last season, Messi was a pale shadow of himself,  with just six goals in 26 domestic league games for PSG.

BARCELONA CHAPTER

Messi was forced out of Barcelona last season ending a 20-year romance.

The 35-year-old won four Champions League titles, 10 La Liga trophies, seven Copa de Rey and three UEFA Super Cups with Barcelona.

His red-hot form should be good news to Argentina ahead of the forthcoming World Cup in Argentina.

Most fans in Argentina believe there is a strong chance for their national team to win the World Cup scheduled for Qatar next month.
