What Cassius Mailula needs to improve on

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has pointed out a few things Cassius Mailula needs to improve on.

The 21-year-old is showing signs of becoming the next big attacking player in the country. He has scored three goals in the last two DStv Premiership games.

A brace in the 5-0 win over Maritzburg on Tuesday was followed by another goal in the 3-0 win over Royal AM on Saturday.

Mokwena has since shared advice on how he can maintain this performance.

Mokwena believes Mailula has a bright future

REMAIN HUMBLE

“Most important thing now is humanity, be level headed. Do not push too much the name but the perfomances on the pitch,” Mokwena told the media.

He added that they had forgotten about the attacking players they are missing, thanks to players like Mailula.

“Very good, he is doing very well for us, you do not even talk about players we’re missing. We’re missing the whole frontline.

“To play a boy like Cassius, it augurs well not only with Sundowns but the whole South African football.”

“So may it continue, with a lot of respect and support around him, feet on the ground and keep working hard.”

Mailula was named man-of-the-match on Saturday

At his age, Mokwena is convinced he can still be a better player and he pinpoints an area where he needs to improve to reach his best.

“There is huge potential. For the very first time in my opinion, we’ve had a top young attacking player, Cassius is good with his left and right foot.”

BUILDING UP PLAY

“He needs to develop on some other things like building up play and movements, which comes with experience and good coaching.”

Sundowns remain without last season’s top scorer Peter Shalulile and newly signed Abubeker Nasir, who are both injured.

In the duo’s absence, Mailula has risen to the occasion. The defending league champions have scored eight times in the last two league games.
