Lungu soaks-in starring role in Buffaloes CAF WCL win
Ireen Lungu has described her Player of the Match award in Green Buffaloes’ 4-0 win over Determine Girls in Sunday’s CAF Women’s Champions League opener as awesome.
Lungu created two goals and scored one to see Buffaloes make a resounding debut at the tournament Morocco is hosting from October 30 to November 13.
“It makes me feel awesome, and I have been working so hard to try and get the player of the match, and of course, the win has also boosted the morale in the team,” Lungu said.
“I also dedicate the award to the whole team because on my own; I couldn’t have scooped the award.”

Maweta Chilenga put Buffaloes ahead in the 8th minute after benefitting from a Lungu cross.
Lungu was again the provider for Buffaloes’ second goal in the 29th minute, scored by her Zambia international teammate Natasha Nanyagwe.
Hellen Chanda added Buffaloes’ third in the 31st minute to see the COSAFA Zone champions take a three-nil half-time lead.
Lungu crowned her good day at the office with the final goal in the 57th minute.
It was Lungu’s 6th CAF Women’s Champions League goal this season.
Lungu scored 5 at the COSAFA Zone qualifying tournament held in South Africa in August, where she inspired Buffaloes to the regional title when she also won the championships’ Golden Boot.
Buffaloes top Group A tied on 3 points with hosts club ASFAR who also won their opening game on Sunday following a 1-0 victory over Simba Queens of Tanzania.
The Zambian club can confirm its semifinal spot with a game to spare on Wednesday should they beat ASFAR in their penultimate Group A match.
The top two finishers in the eight-club championship will advance to the semifinals that will be played on November 8.
TP Mazembe from Congo DR, Bayelsa Queens of Nigeria, Egypt’s Wadi Degla and holders Mamelodi Sundowns comprise Group A.
