TUT back to winning ways, Tsunami Queens finally wins
Tshwane University of Technology [TUT] produced a stunning performance as they scored six goals to condemn Vasco Da Gama to a humiliating defeat in the Hollywoodbets Super League weekend fixture at TUT main Campus stadium.
The Red Ladies returned to winning ways following their 3-all draw against the University of Johannesburg [UJ], coming back from 3-1 down to earn an important point away from home last week.
The victory saw TUT consolidate their second spot as they have collected 55 points in 26 games, 18 points behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, who are currently away out of the country for the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League held in Morocco.
EAGERLY AWAITED SHOWPIECE
Banyana Ba Style will take on Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens in the Champions League opener on Monday [17:00].
The eagerly-awaited showpiece will be played at Stade de Marrakech Stadium.
Sundowns Ladies are drawn in Group B alongside Bayelsa Queens of Nigeria, Wadi Degla from Egypt, and TP Mazembe of DR Congo.
Meanwhile, the relegation zone-threatened Tsunami Queens finally got their second win of the season following their 2-1 victory over City Lads at home. Tsunami came into this game after a 5-0 drubbing to the University of the Western Cape [UWC] in their last match.
As a result, Tsunami remain at the basement of the log standings with nine points from 27 outings.
The struggling Phuthaditjhaba-based will now have to win all their three remaining games to survive the chop with the hope that other relegation-threatened teams drop points to save their own skin.
This season, Tsunami has only managed to two matches, drew three, and lost 22 in the process.
The Free State side are the second team in the league with a poor defence, having conceded 69 goals and only found the back of the net on 14 occasions, with a disappointing minus 54 goal difference.
In other results, Ma-Indies made things worse for Golden Ladies, who are also on the verge of facing relegation as they succumbed to a 4-1 defeat to the Limpopo club at Noordelkes Sports Field.
Golden Ladies are placed 15th on the table with 10 points, just a point ahead of the bottom-placed Tsunami.
Whereas JVW managed to redeem themselves after an embarrassing 3-1 loss to First Touch Ladies last week as they secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Bloemfontein Celtic away from home.
