Guardiola gives Erling Halaand injury update
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has provided the latest update regarding their lethal frontman Erling Haaland, who suffered a fever and a knock on his foot.
Guardiola said the Norwegian goal poacher “feels better” than when he substituted at half-time in their 0-0 draw against his former side Borussia Dortmund last week.
The Manchester City manager hinted that the 21-year-old footballer could feature in Saturday’s Premier League clash against Fulham.
The Citizens will play Fulham at home with kick-off scheduled for 17:00 [SA time].
The setback forced Haaland to miss their league game against Leicester City over the weekend and will also not take part in their Champions League encounter with Sevilla on Wednesday.
Guardiola’s charges have already booked their last 16 spot in Champions League as they have been declared winners of their group.
NOT AVAILABLE
“Erling will not be available for tomorrow,” said Guardiola as quoted by BBC Sport.
“He feels better compared to Saturday and Sunday, but not 100%. We don’t want to take a risk, it makes no sense.
“Hopefully he will be back for Fulham.”
Since his arrival at Etihad at the beginning of the season from Dortmund, where he scored 86 goals in 89 appearances, the talented goalscorer has found the back of the net on 22 occasions in 15 games across all competitions for City.
“I want to score goals, win trophies and improve as a footballer and I am confident I can do that here. So, I believe I am in the right place to fulfil my ambitions,” these were Haaland’s words when he put pen to paper and one can tell that his living by his words.
“You can’t help but admire their style of play, it’s exciting and they create a lot of chances, which is perfect for a player like me.”
