Eric Tinkler says his Cape Town City players need to raise their CAF Confederation Cup game against Algeria’s USM Alger on Wednesday.
Tinkler said this ahead of the second preliminary round first leg match at DHL Stadium in Cape Town.
The former Bafana Bafana mentor said Cape City need to start the game on the front foot and pressurize the visitors.
“We need to be positive. We need to put them under immense pressure. We need to play with good intensity. If we do that, then we can get a positive result at home,” he said.
TOUGH CUSTOMERS
The former Orlando Pirates coach described Alger as tough customers with depth in quality.
“Tough team. I have managed to watch four or five matches they have played. They are very well organized, well-structured with very talented footballers,” he said.
CHALLENGE OF PLAYING IN AFRICA
Tinkler said playing in Africa always provides an opportunity for learning.
“These games are not easy. You are up against high quality teams so we need to raise our game if we want to see ourselves in the group stages,” he said.
The Citizens will travel to Algeria for the second leg on the weekend of November 9.
The overall winner between Cape City and Alger will book a place in the group stages.
Cape City were relegated to the second tier continental competition after being booted out from the CAF Champions League by Petro de Luanda.
