Downs star Daweti reveals the real reason behind goalscoring form

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies frontwoman Lelona Daweti has revealed that coach Jerry Tshabalala’s tactics are behind her scintillating goalscoring form.

The 23-year-old striker made headlines when she banged a brace in their Group B CAF Women’s Champions League opener. This was against Bayelsa Queens on Monday night.

Banyana Ba Style went on to win the game with a 2-1 scoreline at Stade de Marrakech Stadium.

Daweti gave credit to her mentor ‘Kappa’, who she revealed had a talk with her to work on her finishing.

THE SECRET BEHIND DAWETI FORM

“I’ve been missing a lot of goals in our league.

“The coach [Jerry Tshabalala] has been on my neck for the whole season,” the talented forward told CAF media.

“I haven’t been scoring because of the position I’m playing. I promised that if it’s what he is not happy about, I will fix that. I started scoring in the recent few league games.

“My confidence has been boosted and my spirit getting higher since I started scoring.”

Before the red-hot Brazilians headed to the Champions League tournament Daweti had found the back of the net on eight occasions in the last five Super League matches, including her hat-trick in their 8-0 victory against the Limpopo side, First Touch Ladies.

“In our last league match before this tournament, I scored a hat-trick and now another two goals. So the confidence is high and it is making the team win,” she added.
