Five African stars to watch at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar

With the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar a few weeks away from kickoff, FARPost looks at five players from each African nations to watch out for and who can make difference.

These players are namely Sadio Mane, Vincent Aboubakar, Achraf Hakimi, Thomas Partey and Wahbi Khazri.

The 2022 addition will kickoff from November 20th to December 20th with 32 team eyeing the gold trophy.

Sadio Mane

The Bayern Munich forward is expected to lead the Lions of Teranga from the front. Mane who made a switch from Premier League side Liverpool to Bundesliga during the transfer window hit the ground running in Germany.

Since joining Bayern, Mane had made 20 appearances for the club in all competitions. So far, he has managed to find the back of the net 11 times and provided two assists.

Vincent Aboubakar

The Al-Nassr striker will be hoping to replicate his great displays he showcased in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations where he scored eight goals guiding the Indomitable Lions to a third place finish.

In the current 2022/23 season in the Saudi Pro League, Aboubakar has featured eight times for his side and managed to score two goals.

Achraf Hakimi

The 23-year-old fullback will be one of the key players for the Atlas Lions at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The Paris Saint-Germain defender has been pivotal for his club and country.

So far this season, Hakimi has made 18 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants. The attacking minded fullback has scored two goals and provided an assist.

Thomas Partey

The Arsenal midfield maestro has been key for The Gunners this season after recovering from a long term injury. Partey will be key in the Black Stars midfield at the World Cup.

For Arsenal this season, Partey has featured in 12 matches for the club bossing the midfield. He has scored two goals in the process.

Wahbi Khazri

The 31-year-old maybe playing his last World Cup for the Carthage Eagles. In the past years, he has been instrumental for his country helping them qualify for the World Cups and the AFCONs.

The Montpeller FC striker has played 10 matches in Ligue 1 this season. He has been involved in three goals so far, scoring two and provided one assist.
