Wadi Degla coach hails Sundowns’ ‘beautiful’ display

Wadi Degla mentor Wael El-Sayed has hailed Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies‘ “beautiful” display following their 5-0 drubbing to the title holders in a CAF Women’s Champions League clash at Grand Stade de Marrakech on Thursday night.

Goals from Lelona Daweti, Melinda Kagdiete, Bambanani Mbane and a brace from Boitumelo Rabale were enough for Downs Ladies to outclass the Egyptian side.

The victory saw Banyana Ba Style advance to the semifinals of the tournament with a game to spare.

Currently, Sundowns are cruising nicely on the summit of the Group B table with six points from two outings.

El-Sayed went on to reveal that his side’s poor performance was below par as they faced one of the best teams in the continent.

EL-SAYED ON SUNDOWNS’ QUALITY…

“We played against a great team, which plays beautiful football and is well organised, without forgetting that the majority of its players are part of the team that won the last Women’s Africa Cup of Nations,” El-Sayed told the media in a post-match interview.

“We tried to play well and face them. Our players have seen what professionalism is all about with this tournament.

“For us, playing in this competition helps us to improve.”

With the North Africans already been eliminated from the tournament, the coach reckons that he will shift focus on taking the positives from the competition.

EL-SAYED ON HIS SIDE’S EXPERIENCE…

“There is a gap and experience. We’ve only just started and this is just the beginning for us.

“Congratulations to Sundowns and we still have the last match to go.

“We have young players, generation 2007, 2005 and 2004. This opposition is interesting to know exactly where we are.”

Degla will be hoping to win their last game against Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens at Stade Moulay Hassan on Sunday, November 6 to put an end to their poor run in the tournament.
