Erling Halaand reflects on his most nervous moment
Striker Erling Halaand has described his late penalty winner for Manchester City against Fulham as his most nervous moment of his career.
Halaand scored in added time to send City top of the table as of Saturday to displace Arsenal at the top.
The Norwegian reacted to his goal in a post-match interview with Sky Sports TV at the Etihad Stadium.
“It was one of the most nervous moments in my life. It is a penalty and it is the last moment of the game,” he said.
Halaand missed recent few games due to a foot injury.
The former Borussia Dortmund forward said he was happy to back to action.
“I was injured for over one week and it feels good to be back,” Halaand said.
The Norwegian was called into action on Saturday when he came off the bench to replace Julian Alvares’ with the game at one-all.
City had gone ahead through new signing Alvares’ 17th minute goal.
Fulham equalized through a penalty some 10 minutes later with Andres Pereira converting.
Joao Cancelo had fouled Harry Wilson of Fulham to give away a penalty and receive a red card leaving City down to 10 men.
It was now time for Halaand to do what he knows best, scoring from the spot after Kevin De Bryne was fouled in the box.
The defending champions have not been at their fluent best, but they got the business done.
Arsenal stand a chance to regain top spot provided they find a way to beat Chelsea on Sunday.
The Blues are seeking to bounce back from a loss to Brighton and Hove in the last domestic league game.
