The two front runners for the Sekhukhune coaching gig

Sekhukhune United are in the market for a coach, and two DStv Premiership coaches have emerged as front runners for the vacancy.

FARPost has it on good authority that Sekhukhune has identified two recently sacked DStv Premiership coaches as potential candidates to take over from Kaitano Tembo.

The Zimbabwean coach, Tembo, was dismissed from his post following a torrid start to the new season, leaving Sekhukhune in the relegation zone in 15th place on the log standings.

It was the second time in 2022 that Tembo has been shown the exit door as he lost his coaching gig at SuperSport United in April.

He only lasted four months at Babina Noko.

SEKHUKHUNE SEARCHING FOR COACH

With only two wins in 12 league games and at risk of getting relegated, the Sekhukhune management felt it was necessary to take action. Brandon Truter and John Maduka are in pole position to take charge of the struggling club.

Truter resigned at AmaZulu last month citing “personal reasons”, while Maduka was sacked by Maritzburg United several days ago due to poor results as the club is lying at the foot of the table.

However, Maduka is also linked with a return to Royal AM.

“Sekhukhune prefers Truter because they feel his teams are usually compact at the back, and they hardly concede, and they believe he can save them from relegation as he did with AmaZulu,” said the source.

“The club were also impressed with his presentation on how he intends to turn things around and save them from the drop. He met with the club’s management recently.

“Maduka is in the thick of things as he has also been considered, but Truter is the favourite to land the job as the management strongly believes in his philosophy.

“But Sekhukhune are only going to appoint the club until the end of the season,” added the insider.

The league is currently on a break due to the FIFA World Cup, which affords Sekhukhune enough time to appoint the right mentor, who will also have sufficient time to prepare the team for the second round of the season.
