Fifth Premier League coach shown exit door

A fifth Premier League coach has become the latest to be shown the fast-revolving exit door this 2022-23 season alone.

Southampton have parted ways with manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, hours after the Saints suffered a 4-1 loss to in-form Newcastle United.

PARTED COMPANY

A statement from the Premier League side has confirmed the development. “Southampton Football Club can confirm it has parted company with Men’s First Team Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl,” the club’s statement reads.

Southampton acknowledged the job Hasenbuttl did in keeping the team in the Premier League.

He was appointed in 2018 and, over the years, ensured the Saints survived relegation.
“However, we now believe it is an appropriate time to make a change,” Southampton’s statement adds.

First Team Lead Coach Rubén Sellés has since been placed in temporary charge of the team.

The search for a substantive coach has begun in earnest, taking advantage of the World Cup-induced break.

SCOT PARKER LED THE WAY OUT

The first coach to be shown the exit door was Scott Parker at Bournemouth soon after a 9-0 humiliation by Liverpool.

Perhaps, the most bizarre decision was that of Chelsea’s new owners kicking out UEFA Champions League winner Thomas Tuchel.

The Blues management opted to hire Graham Potter after poaching him from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Potter has, after going some 10 games unbeaten, now lost 4-1 to the Seagulls and 1-0 to Arsenal.

Chelsea had lost back-to-back league games with the German Tuchel in charge.

Aston Villa also sacked Steven Gerrard after struggles in his second season in charge.

Unai Emery has since replaced the Liverpool legend at Villa Park. Bruno Lage, too, failed to keep his job at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

WHO IS NEXT?

Other Premier League coaches whose jobs are not safe include Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City, David Moyes of West Ham United and Frank Lampard at Everton.

Liverpool might have defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 on Sunday, but Jurgen Klopp cannot sleep peacefully either.
