Broos leaves door open for Mothiba return at Bafana
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has left the door open for Lebo Mothiba to return to the national team setup.
This comes after the striker recovered from a long term injury and has been in a good run of form at his club RC Strasbourg Alsace in the French Ligue 1.
In the last three matches he featured for the French top division side, Mothiba found the back of the net twice with his fitness level improving.
Mothiba was a regular at Bafana before his injury setback when Stuart Baxter was in charge.
He has 14 national caps to his name and has managed to score four goals.
MOTHIBA SET FOR BAFANA RETURN
Mothiba’s last match in Bafana colours was back in March 2018 against Angola. He had a great match, putting his name on the scoresheet.
“We are following him [Lebo Mothiba] I think two games ago he came in he scored, then the other game he started he scored. So he’s on a good way,” said Broos after announcing his squad for the upcoming friendlies against Mozambique and Angola.
“[He plays in] First division in France, let’s see what happens in the next coming weeks. If he can go on and maybe become a standard player, we will be very happy.”
Broos further stated his reason for overlooking the striker who have been struggling with injuries especially last season.
“This guy [Lebo Mothiba] has a tough period behind him with injuries and last time I think with Toulouse. He didn’t play so much, now he’s ok, he has a new start, he plays,” Broos added.
Mothiba, who has been in fine form in front of goal is expected to be in action in Ligue 1 on Sunday when his struggling side play against Lorient.
Strasbourg Alsace are 18th on the log standings with 10 points from 14 matches.
