Timm too focused on Soweto derby to celebrate Bafana Bafana call-up
Orlando Pirates midfielder Miguel Timm has ‘shelved’ Bafana Bafana call-up celebrations to focus on Saturday’s Carling Black Label Cup games.
The 30-year-old told the media on Wednesday his focus is on the semifinal against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
The midfielder said he wants to atone for missing the Soweto derby, which Chiefs won 1-0 two weeks ago.
“I am very happy, my family is also happy [with the call-up], but I still have a task at hand along with my teammates. I have not closed my club yet, and obviously. The focus is to do well,” Timm said.
“I want to win over the weekend first…I personally missed it. I am fully focused on the weekend then we will see after that.”
Timm returned with a man-of-the-match performance for Pirates as they defeated AmaZulu 1-0 to win the MTN8 cup last weekend.
To spice up it all, Timm earned Bafana Bafana call-up ahead of the forthcoming friendlies against Angola and Mozambique.
PIRATES FOCUS ON SMALL DETAILS
The former Marumo Gallants player attributed the loss to Chiefs in the Soweto derby to failure to pay attention to small details, which decide games.
“We didn’t do some things well as the collective. We have already spoken about it, and we, obviously, look to improve our performance,” he said.
Timm also dismissed the notion that Pirates lost because of his absence.
“I am a team player. We could have lost even if I was there. I don’t think I could have made much difference,” he said.
“There were little details as a team that weren’t done well on the day. We look to correct this weekend.”
WORK IN PROGRESS
Timm warned that Pirates were still a work in progress, adding that they had not reached the level they wanted.
“We have made steady progress. We know personally as a team our goals and our objectives,” he said.
“I am not afraid to say we are not near where we are supposed to be. We will continue working hard to be where we want to be.
“I think it will be evident to the public when we reach the levels we are supposed to be.”
He said they were also motivated by the desire to make it a double of silverware, adding on to the MTN8.
“It’s on my mind for sure and all of our minds. It is an addictive feeling,” Timm said.
The other semifinal on Saturday will involve Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu.
