Nteo on why he wants another CAF dance for Royal AM

Royal AM co-coach Abram Nteo wants another dance in the CAF Confederation Cup and has urged his charges to push for a place in the next edition.

Royal AM were knocked out of the competition after losing 3-0 on aggregate to TP Mazembe of DRC.

They fell 2-0 in Lubumbashi before succumbing to a 1-0 defeat at home on Wednesday.

Nonetheless, Nteo says the number of lessons picked in the competition will help them in the DSTV Premiership.

“Congratulations to TP Mazembe for moving to the next round. You could see that they came with a plan. Not to attack, defended very well, they used counterattacks,” Nteo told the media.

“I am happy with the boys’ performance. They played well, and hopefully, this experience will take them to another level in our league.”

With the experience Royal AM got, the former South Africa youth international wants his boys to fight for a return to the competition. He is convinced another dance in the CAF competition will contribute to the growth of the club.

“I’m very proud of playing against top teams in African football, we need that experience, and we did well.

“We now want to focus on the domestic league and do well. We want to fight and play this competition again,” he said.

The KZN outfit will now take a two-week break to recharge, as domestic football will take a month-long pause due to the Fifa World Cup.

The Royal AM mentor says they will use this break to find solutions after their not-so-good start to the 2022/23 season.

“We will take a two-week break, then come back for another two weeks. We’re planning to work on our weaknesses and find solutions before our league game against Cape Town City.

“We will definitely play some friendly games in between, and hopefully, our injured players will be recovered then.”
