In-form striker leads Mambas squad for Bafana Bafana friendly

In-form striker Lau King will lead Mozambique’s Mambas’ 23-member squad for next Wednesday’s friendly against Bafana Bafana.

Mozambique coach Chiquinho Conde named King in the squad on Friday ahead of the trip to Nelspruit to face Bafana Bafana.

The UD Songo centre-forward has eight goals to his credit with some four games left to the end of the season.

MAMBAS EXPECT TOUGH BAFANA BAFANA TEST

Conde told Mozambique Football Federation (FMF) website that he was bracing for a stern test from Bafana Bafana.

“We are going to face them [Bafana Bafana] with the same mentality as we did with other opponents,” he said.

The Mambas coach said he wants to use the friendly to prepare for the CHAN finals. “We want to consolidate our ideas which we will apply at CHAN,” he told FMF. Bafana Bafana will then host Angola three days later.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is taking advantage of the international window to prepare for the forthcoming assignments.

South Africa date Liberia next March in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, whereas the Mambas are fine-tuning for the CHAN finals.

CHAN will take place in Algeria from January 13 to February 4 2023. Meanwhile, FMF president Feizal Sidat has hailed clubs for allowing them to release players for the trip to South Africa.

Sidat told the FMF website that the association had agreed with Mozambique Football League to proceed with domestic league assignments on the day of the international friendly.

The FMF head added that the friendly in South Africa was crucial to the Mambas’ preparations for CHAN.

He added that his federation has since dispatched an advance team to Algeria to appreciate the facilities there.

“We have our coordinator in Algeria assessing the conditions of the grounds, having already identified a hotel where the team will stay,” Sidat said.
