Bongokuhle Hlongwane gets late Bafana call-up
Bongokuhle Hlongwane has received a late call-up for Bafana Bafana’s friendlies this week against Mozambique and Angola.
The 22-year-old winger from USA MLS club Minnesota United joined Hugo’s Broos 23-man team on Sunday for the November home dates against their COSAFA zone opponents. He had initially been dropped when Broos trimmed the provisional squad from 30 to 23.
Hlongwane’s call-up comes after an injury layoff that saw him miss September’s friendly dates against Sierra Leone and Botswana.
The ex-Maritzburg United winger moved to the MLS earlier this year, where he featured in 30 games. The Pietermaritzburg-born star scored two top-flight goals and made five assists.
Bafana will kick off their friendly dates on November 17 at Mbombela Stadium against Mozambique.
South Africa will close their FIFA International calendar for this month on November 20, when they host Angola at the same venue.
