Manchester United in talks to extend Garnacho contract

Manchester United are in talks to extend Alejandro Garnacho’s contract following his recent exploits in the senior team.

On Sunday, 13 November, Garnacho scored an injury-time winner to help United win maximum points against Fulham.

Christian Eriksen, who set up Garnacho, had put United ahead in the first half. It was the Dane’s first goal since joining United during the pre-season.

GARNACHO IS GREAT

Fulham equalised late in the second half before Garnacho won it for the Red Devils after coming on from the bench.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was impressed by the teenager. “Fantastic. He shows the mentality, has the impact and belief. Twice in four days. He is great, I like his belief, and he is great to work with, a real pleasure,” he told Sky Sports.

While the Dutch mentor appreciates that the youngster has massive self-confidence, he warned him to not “over act on it”.

“It is a big skill [self-confidence] he has, don’t over act on it, but that is what you need at the top and perform under stress.”

Captain on the day, Bruno Fernandes, said the Argentinian deserved the opportunities he had been getting.

“Not because of his [Garnacho’s] goals and assists but the way he comes into the game. Nobody likes to be on the bench, so the attitude he has when he comes off has been fantastic. He deserves the chances he’s been having, and he’s got his rewards,” Fernandes told Sky Sports.

LONG TERM DEAL

The 18-year-old has scored twice and assisted twice from the bench in the last 10 days.

Reports are that he has attracted interest from Serie A and, according to transfer specialist, United want to tie him down to a long-term deal.

The Argentinian’s current deal runs until 2025. His full debut came recently in a 3-0 win against FC Sheriff in the Europa League. Prior to that, he had made an appearance under Ralf Rangnick in April.
Subsequently, he got his Argentina call-up after scoring seven goals in six games in the FA Youth Cup. He was also crowned Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year for the club.
