Ex-Bafana midfielder McBeth Sibaya linked with new coaching job
Former Bafana midfielder McBeth Sibaya is being linked with a new coaching job.
Sibaya is on the verge of joining Motsepe Foundation Championship side Venda Football Academy as an assistant coach.
Talks are at an advanced stage for Sibaya to link up with the Limpopo outfit. FARPost last week reported that Joel Masutha was set to be appointed head coach of the club.
MCBETH SIBAYA WORKED WITH DLADLA
This publication can reveal that Sibaya will join the technical team as an assistant coach. “They’re in talks with him to join the technical team. He has previously worked with Simo Dladla at Uthongathi,” the source said.
Of course, Simo Dladla’s future with the club remains uncertain, with Masutha linked to his job.
Dladla joined VFA in October from Uthongathi to bring positive results to the club. But he has struggled to string results, winning only one, drawing one, and losing three matches.
Nonetheless, it is thought Sibaya would bring in massive experience from his playing days. He represented South Africa in two FIFA World Cups – 2002 and 2010. He also played at the FIFA Confederation Cup in 2009 and the African Cup of Nations in 2004.
At club level, he won league titles in Russia and Norway and played in the UEFA Champions Leagues with Russian club Rubin Kazan and Rosenborg BK from Norway.
VFA are currently on a break, but Sibaya and management are in talks to finalise the deal. According to the source, when the team resumes preparations for the second round later this month, Sibaya may be part of them.
On the other hand, Masutha looks set to bring some experience to the VFA technical team. The former Black Leopards coach is a very experienced and has worked with several teams in Limpopo.
He recently parted away with Black Leopards after a fallout with management. Rodwell Dhlakama from Zimbabwe has since replaced him.
