Janine van Wyk completes UEFA B coaching Licence

Banyana Banyana co-captain Janine van Wyk has completed her UEFA B coaching Licence. 

The veteran defender decided to take a step closer to a pathway into coaching in the future, having completed her coaching course with Scottish Football Association. [Scottish FA]. 

The 35-year-old footballer expressed her gratitude to the Scottish FA for giving her the opportunity as she gradually learns the ropes of becoming a coach. 

“Huge thanks to all the Scottish FA instructors for the valuable information shared throughout this course,” said the JVW FC boss in a statement.

Van Wyk has now set her sights on completing UEFA A coaching Licence in due course. 

“Looking forward to continuing taking steps to extend my football knowledge as my coaching journey develops,” she added. 

The most decorated Banyana player also received heaps of praise from the three-time CAF Women’s Coach of the Year Desiree Ellis, who is the South African Women’s National Team head coach and also from the former Banyana coach Fran Hilton-smith. 

Her love for coaching has been something close to her heart as she founded JVW, where she previously served as a player-coach for the club.

Meanwhile, the talented defender made a surprise return back to Europe, where she joined Greece women’s football club Ergotoris.

The Greece side made it clear that Van Wyk’s return to Europe was her choice as she wanted to raise the bar even more with her experience and mindset.

Van Wyk remains the highest-capped player in South Africa with 180 caps and the highest-capped female in CAF.

She made her Banyana debut against Nigeria in the African Women’s Championship back in 2005, where she scored the only goal of the day, which saw South Africa seal their first-ever win over Nigeria since the formation of the women’s national in 1993.
