6 PSL midfielders who’ve stood out for Tso Vilakazi
Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi has picked six DStv Premiership players that have impressed him so far.
The local Premier Soccer League is on a break to pave the way for the FIFA World Cup that roars to life on Sunday.
After 13 games played in the local league, Vilakazi has picked five midfielders that have stood out for him.
“It’s Andile Jali, Mshishi [Themba Zwane], [Philip Ndabayithethwa] Ndlondlo is coming, and [Sibongiseni] Mthethwa from Cape Town [Stellenbosch] in that midfield,” Vilakazi told FARPost.
Interestingly, some of the names he mentioned have been rewarded with national team call-ups.
Mthethwa and Zwane are with the national team that faces Mozambique on Thursday night and Angola on Sunday afternoon.
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos made a U-turn on Zwane in September, inviting him for two international friendlies against Botswana and Sierra Leone.
AmaZulu’s Augustine Makhaula also makes Vilakazi’s list after guiding them to the MTN8 Cup final. They, however, lost to Ndlondlo’s Orlando Pirates.
The former Bafana Bafana ace further picks a man who struggled for game time at Sundowns but is enjoying a new lease of life in KZN.
“Another player I think has regained his confidence is George Maluleka.
“I’m happy for the boy because, at Sundowns, he did struggle a lot. But I can see at AmaZulu he is doing very well.
“He can initiate an attack. He is there where there is an action. So those are the players I think are doing well,” concluded Vilakazi.
The 2022/23 resumes on New Year’s Eve with several fixtures lined up for the day.
Some local teams who did not participate in last weekend’s Carling Black Label Cup have already resumed training.
